LLOYDS NATIONAL CYCLO-CROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS
January 11th / 12th 2025
The 2025 British National Cyclo-cross Championships at Cyclopark delivered an exhilarating weekend of top-tier racing, with riders and spectators alike experiencing challenging conditions on a technical course!
Now that the mud is starting to settle, please take your time to read through the following event round-up. It is important to reflect and recognise the hard work that has gone into staging an event like this, as well celebrate the results from those who competed.
ICONIC COURSE FEATURES
Creating a technical, feature-packed course is no walk in the park.
This year to team went above and beyond in finding a new course layout; revitalising old sections as well as curating new routes to put riders to the test. Here are just a few of the most iconic features on our National Championhips course!

Hurdles
Despite not being the most difficult, or newly added, feature on course, this year’s positioning on the hurdles provided a great addition for spectators who were able to watch the action up close!

Ride For Charlie 47-Steps
Nothing is more iconic than our 47 steps. Riders must complete run up these every lap on race day, and it’s certainly no mean feat to sprint up. A staple or our venue that we are proud to include in this event!

Off-Camber Ruts
Pick a rut and stay locked in! Although it is not the largest or most dynamic feature on course, this every expanding selection of ruts puts even the msot technical riders to the test every lap!

BMX Banking
A fan favourite for a reason, with technical difficulty, scale of feature and multiple viewing positions keeping this at the forefront of both rider and spectator’s mind this race weekend!
metres of fencing
litres of water
wooden stakes
metres of tape
It’s no secret that the costs of staging these events are considerable, from prize money, race levies, first aid, insurance, commentary, race timing, portaloos, additional bins, staffing costs and more….

Thank you!
Putting on an event of this scale is not possible without the help of those who with to see the sport and charity succeed. We wish to thank the following organisations and individuals for their time, services, expertise and willingness to get stuck in to help us deliver this event!
PG Site Services
The road circuit is back open – all thanks for the amazing support from PG Site Services / PG Sweepers!
Typically, after a cyclocross event, the team spend days of manually scrubbing, scraping and spraying the circuit in order to get it to a condition safe enough to ride again for our members and regular sessions.
However, this year, PG Sweepers have generously offered their services, and equipment, to the Cyclopark Charity. From coming in on Sunday evening to remove the fresh mud, to supplying a water tank and jet wash, all free of charge!
They even came during the event to refill the water bowsers to provide a valuable resource for the rider and pit crews!
Without PG Site Services / Sweepers we would still have a lot of work to do out there!
SC First Aid Training Services
A huge thank you to Seb and the team at SC First Aid Training Services for keeping everyone safe at the National Cyclocross Championships. From cuts and bruises to broken bones, riders were patched up and everyone got home safely!
Volunteer Course Builders
A huge thank you to those who volunteered their time to this event. Without their support accross the countless build days, we wouldn’t have had the course that so many have trained and raced on!

Commissaires
Overseeing the British National Championships comes with a serious level of understanding, decision making and technical knowledge of the sport.
Thankfully, the commissaire team, headed by Lee Shunburne, kept everything running smoothly, even with the ever-changing treacherous weather conditions and course ammendments coming into play!
Matt Payne / The CrossCast
The voice of the event!
Matt Payne, of Full Speed Events, kept the crowds informed throughout the National Championships, with insightful annd engaging commentary from start to finish!
However, his work did not stop there, as during the evenings, Matt and co-host Neil recorded live episodes of The CrossCast in our ParkEat cafe!
Bringing rider interviews, race recaps and more, their knowledge and dedication of the sport is unwavering!

Frost Solutions
As one of the Charity’s main partners, Frost Solutions have been an incredible asset to our branding, not just for the event, but as a venue as a whole!
All of the Cyclopark Charity branded scrim, steps, heras fences, hurdles and finish straight boards were all produced by Frost Solutions.
The impact of their presence at the event truly made a difference to the look of the course for riders and spectator!
Shreeve Protection Services
Shreeve Protection Services provided a number of roles throughout the race weekend – from overnight security, car parking attending, wayfinding, and venue marshalling.
As a long-term service provider of Cyclopark, we can always rely on Shreeve to keep us and the venue running smoothly and safely!
Bruce Sandel
Bruce’s extensive connections within the world of cycling paid dividends to recruiting marshal and volunteers for this event, especially with ties to local club Southborough District Wheelers.
Assistance on the day regarding course changes and repair added a vital asset to the running of the event!
Cyclopark Charity Team
Sometimes it is hard to overlook the hard work carried out by those you see everyday, and this is no expection when looking at the huge amount of effort put in by every member of our team.
Even though we all got our hands dirty (literally), our estates team of Dan, Lewis, Adrian and Jason went above and beyond with preparing the venue for this epic race weekend.
From cutting back foliage, moving and positioning infrastructure, installing branding and course building for the last few months, come rain, shine and snow!
The work does not stop post-event, with clean up efforts pitted against us as we race to get the circuit back open for school groups, member usage and adaptive cycling sessions needing a place to ride!
Huw Williams
Huw has provided support for this event in a number of ways. Particularly when it comes to course building.
From coming in over Christmas to add course length and refinement, to being an insightful soundboard for event and course design for the team throughout the build up to the National Champs.
Ebbsfleet Printers
As a long term supplier of Cyclopark, we can count on Ebbsfleet Printers to get the job done under pressure. When we submitted the order for the event programmes to be printed, there was only 3 days for them to go from the design software to people’s hands and, as always, the programmes were delivered in time and looking fantastic!
Theo & Honor
Before the Nationals, Theo Clarke and Honor Elliott came to the venue to capture onboard footage of the race course.
Not only did they film the lap, they also chopped up the footage into 4 digitally optimised videos, highlighting key course features.
With a total of 142,000+ combined views across Faacebook and Instagram (at the time of writing this) it’s safe to say their POV course ride gave those who were competing an insight into what to expect on race day!
The World of Cycling According to Kirstie
When you could only watch the National Cyclocross Championships at the venue, Kirstie came to the rescue!
By livestreaming the event, on her Youtube channel, she bought the races to the masses!
Racking up tens of thounsands of views between two livestreams, her race coverage and impressive race commentary kept everyone at home up to date! Check out her channel below!
Stuart McGhee
Stuart McGhee is no stranger to a ‘cross event, and this weekend he shined as chief marshal for the National Championships!
Additionally, his efforts in advising on the course, and helping with course repairs helped the riders stay safe throughout their races.
The loan of LCCA branding was a nice touch too! Check out their website below
Andy Smith / GKR Scaffolding
Andy Smith of GKR Scaffolding and subsequent GKR Racing, ensured the flyover was safe for use ahead of the National Champs!
Despite the biting frost and ice keeping it’s usage to a minimum on the race weekend , this feature is a key area on course that continues to offer an incredible training and racing resource for riders at the venue!
Jak and Zam Cleaners
When you have thousands of people onsite who’s only goal is to watch cyclists race through mud, things get messy very quickly!
Luckily, thanks to Jak and Zam Cleaners, the park stayed squeeky clean for all our members!
Volunteers Race Marshals / Southborough District Wheelers
A big thank you to all of the volunteer marshals who kept the races running smoothly throughout the National Championships.
We all know that the temperatures were far from tropical during the event, but the volunteers from Southborough District Wheelers played their vital part in bringing this event to life!
ProCom Communication Services
Communication is key, so when ProCom offered to provide us with an additional 8 radios for the event weekend we were grateful for the support!
The result of this allowed for clearer and wider communications between all staff and organisers, which made the days run smoother!
Best Western Manor Hotel
If overnight parking is not your thing, the Best Western Manor Hotel has you covered!
With its 5 minute drive to the venue, great breakfast and discounted rate for event participants, the Manor Hotel provided affordable, local accomodation on their race weekend.
Gravesend Sound and Lighting
It’s no secret that cyclocross requires water, and lots of it. Despite having several 1000L bowsers onsite, GSL provided an additional cohort of bowsers to ensure riders and pit crew could keep their bikes and kit running clean!
Tim Sales / British Cycling
British Cycling’s Tim Sales, not only marshalled throughout the event, but also provided regional support in the form of additional race radios for commissaires, organisers and marshals to stay up to speed throughout the event!
